She Can Kill With a Smile

I just saw the new John Lewis TV advert

...Not that I'm completely swayed by advertising (*ahem*), but this cover of Billy Joel's 'She's Always a Woman' by Fyfe Dangerfield (What a name!) is beautiful.  Give it a listen, it's such a nice song, although the sentiment is rather strange. Gorgeous vocals though.

Anywho, it's ironic that I've named this post 'She Can Kill With a Smile' and then I'm going to post about Victoria Beckham. Hardly famous for her smile, is she? I don't doubt that her pout could kill at 100 yards though.
She is on the cover of Germany's Vogue in May

Notice that she is not smiling. I kid, I kid.
I think she looks fabulous. Not to mention her legs go on forever in the last shot. The setting of these shots are amazing. I like that they put her in a rundown, dirty and so out of her zone. It exaggerates the beauty of her hair, make-up and clothes.

I have to say, I've always quite liked Victoria. Not only was she in the Spice girls (win) and marry the hottest footballer (double win), she's just come into her own with her fashion. Her own line has been worn by some big names, and I think it's well deserved. They fit like a glove.

Here's one Spring/Summer '10 look and one Autumn/Winter '10 from her collection:

By the way, I LOVE. They are such a neat reflection of her. Absolutely gorgeous.

You Complete Me

Okay, I'll admit it. I wasn't actually going to do a post today but then I saw this:

This might just be a gratuitous plug for Iron Man 2, but just roll with it momentarily please. (At least 'til I explain!)
Well, it's quite simple. Like Robert says, Iron Man appeals to the ladies. Yes. Me. I LOVE him and I am quite sad (read: dramatically saddened) that I cannot go to see the film until my essays are in on May 17th, boo. So I will indulge (and indulge you!) in my obsession with Robert Downey Jr. And please, I know he's like forty-five, but I like an older man, sigh.

And although I love him, his red specs are not getting a go-ahead from me. There is something distinctly Thespian about them, isn't there? I spose in that case, they're okay...just. But they still look like modified 3-D glasses just a teeny bit. (plus, he matched his tie to his glasses and his trainers...)

And to the ladies of the night, Gwyneth Paltrow and Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett's wearing an Armani Prive dress. Is it just me or does she look a LOT like Kim Catrall in this photo? I quite like the drama this dress creates with the rigid form and the fact that its assymetrical. The length is perfect on her. The shoes are meh. I'm not a huge fan of pointy shoes at the moment.

Photos: Daily Mail
While Gwyneth opted for a Armani shorts suit. Check out those legs! This is typical Gwyneth, she always knows how to stay classy. This pared down look suits her down to the ground. It's unfussy but the colour and the shorts make it work.

Have I obsessed enough over this film? Hmm.

Funny Faces, Same Old Places

I was at work the other day, and I realised something (I have a lot of bored time at work by the by). I love watching people. Not just everyone, because that would be beyond boring but there's some real gems out there. Like when you see people make a really dramatic facial expression...and they're by themselves. They must be engaging in some serious interior monologue to elicit that kind of response. Sometimes it goes even further and they mouth something, nearly always silent, but infinitely interesting. This bit's lost on me. I can't lip read. Seriously. At all. Any of my good friends will recount hundreds of times when they've tried to engage me in some undercover lip-syncing, and I always fail. Horribly. In that way my ears are my best friends
(did I just write that?)

I heard somewhere that James Cameron has decided to re-release Avatar in the cinemas with a bonus 15 minutes footage? That's nice of him to make even more money treat the fans.

If any of you wanted to know, I've decided the next things I will be adding to my wardrobe are some light denim high waisted shorts

I don't quite know if they'll gel with my other stuff, but I'm willing to take a chance. I mean, these shorts ARE summer! I will also be buying some tan gladiators, mmm.

Anywho, I love Chanel bags. And I love this:

Because as ridiculous as it seems, I would lick a Chanel bag if I ever got to own one. I would be that excited, folks. No, really, I just love them. I don't want to especially eat one.
Maybe Alexa just did it so she would get to keep the bag. She's one smart cookie (probably).

I haven't done much of any interest because of my impending doom of deadlines (none of which I have finished as of yet. I'm working on it.) I have, however, got a Blackberry and am currently obsessing over it. This might have just a little more to do with me being bored out of my brains than anything else, but I will keep you updated.

I've Never Been Impressed by Your Friends from New York and London

I broke 'The White Stripes' title spree. I told you I would, didn't I?

Not to be a hair scout or anything, but I wanted to point out that although I dig Deyn's haircut (see below), I do NOT (really, really, really not) like Rihanna's hair:

Is it just me, or does this remind you more of Macaulay Culkin than high fashion?

I admit that it's pretty cool when people take a chance on their hair. It's good to be different, and short hair really does suit Rihanna but this is just too much for me.
p.s. Macaulay Culkin was way cool back then though.

I Wanna Hypnotise You, Baby, on the Telephone

I solemnly vow to not name the next post after a White Stripes lyric. I also cannot apologise for changing the American spelling of 'hypnotize' by dropping the zee. Pow. You just got Anglicised.

I heard through Twitter, Agy Deyn has shaved her head. Proof?

It was sourced from Love Magazine's feed, but that is not how I found out. Fo' shiz, I have awesome contacts that pre-date this photo...
I (embarassingly?!) follow a former 'America's Next Top Model' contestant on Twitter. I don't quite know why. She didn't even win, BUT she is an awesome model. Her photos were a-mazing. This is one of her her post-show shoots:

Love. The location, the dress, the blazer!

Anyway, she tweeted about  how 'fierce' Agy looked with her new crop. I only put 'fierce' in inverted commas because, frankly, I am not cool enough for that.

Back on the hairstyle, I think it's pretty cool. I would like it more if she had gone for double wow effect and kept the peroxide blonde too. But, the dark colour has its benefits; it's very androgynous, non?

Plus, she is awesome

Her style has blended London and New York fashion seamlessly. It's always effortless, urban and kooky.

You got a reaction, you got a reaction, didn't you?

I was going to pick a summery song to fit in with the theme of the post, but I had The White Stripes in my head. I would apologise, but I adore Jack White.

I was thinking about summer clothes. It's the only thing that is motivating me through this last month of essays: what I'll be wearing come end of May. I keep seeing the advertising campaign for New Look's Maxi dress...
Which actually is cute. It's so simple, isn't it? I never really liked the idea of full length dresses, but I'm finally coming round to it. I'm going to put in some hard graft finding a very petite maxi dress for the very short. I will prosper!

I also want to buy a cute straw hat

I wouldn't wear it as low as Nicole, but I think it's a nice way of incorporating an easy summer theme. I actually love a lot of what Nicole Richie wears. It's admirable how she just grew up out of her young, trashier days, and has emerged as a mature woman who always knows how to put her best style foot forward.

This was Nicole earlier this week and her maxi dress and undone plait are effortlessly cool. Hopefully my hair will hurry up and grow because I love the hippy, messy plait. It's gorgeous.

One in a Million, Two is a crowd, Three is company, Four is allowed

You have a problem when you have most of the 'new additions' sections of your favourite clothing store...
I have a problem.

I'm writing my dissertation (well, I'm taking a break to write about writing it, but you know what I mean) and a trillion other essays, and when I'm bored or trying to procrastinate, I shop. With a capital S, H, O & P. I can't help it. I fall into lust with clothes far too easily.

To ease my addiction, I will browse a site, add gorgeous stuff to my basket (that add up to a gruesome amount), then close the page. MADNESS. But I, full time student and part time worker, cannot afford to buy every beautiful spring/summer thing I want. Sigh.

Oh, and on the subject of not doing work in favour of anything else: I saw Kick-Ass.
I conclude Nicolas Cage is creepy.

Evidence:

Yes, that's right. Cage's Kick-Ass character, Big Daddy (ew) and Stanley Tucci's child-killer character from The Lovely Bones look exactly the same. The result is that he is so so creepy in the film. AWKWARD!
Plus, he always refers to his kid super-hero as 'child', which is weird.

Anyway, the film is pretty alright. Gruesome violence and some okay funny bits.

Maybe I'm too harsh on films?

Essays are calling me...
